Contributions Employers can Make
Compulsory Superannuation Guarantee Contributions
The Federal Government requires employers to make Superannuation Guarantee (SG) contributions on behalf of any Employee aged between 18 and 70 years earning more than $450 per month. The SG contributions are calculated at 9% of the Employee's gross earnings and are paid in addition to those earnings.
For further information on Superannuation Guarantee, call your advisor, Auswide Member Services on 1300 88 56 65 or the Australian Taxation Office's Superannuation Guarantee Hotline on 13 10 20.
Auswide also can accept a range of other contributions that are paid either by you as the employer, or directly from your staff, such as:
Voluntary Employer Contributions
You can top up your staff's superannuation as an added benefit of their employment - and in the process earn yourself certain tax benefits. The amount of these discretionary contributions is subject to limits, so it's best to obtain professional advice.
Salary Sacrifice
These contributions are arranged between you and your staff, with the employee giving up part of their pre-tax salary as a superannuation contribution. These contributions are taxed at 15% by the Fund instead of the employee's marginal tax rate.
Spouse Contributions
The Federal Government offers an incentive for topping up a spouse's superannuation, provided the spouse earns less than $13,800 per year. An individual contributing to their spouse's superannuation account could earn a tax rebate of up to $540 for a maximum spouse contribution of $3,000.
Personal Contributions
Auswide encourages members to make voluntary personal contributions to top up their superannuation savings. Making such payments may attract tax concessions or additional payments from the Federal Government. Contributions can be made as often as members wish.
Rollovers
Members may benefit from consolidating multiple superannuation accounts into one, as it minimises administration fees and reduces the paper trail from numerous funds. Auswide can help members rollover any existing superannuation accounts into their Auswide account, we can even take care of all the paper work for you . Before you do anything however Auswide recommends that you consult your financial advisor to check the impact of fees, insurance and any forgone benefits.
